Chase is a talented young artist from Prince Georges County. While he does not have his head in the books and focusing on getting his degree in Business, he embodies a passion for music. I got the opportunity to interview him.
We discussed the following
What do you enjoy most about making music?
What I enjoy most about making music is the creative freedom that I have when it comes to anything I record. I enjoy the process of creating a song(s) no matter the feeling or the type of record. I also enjoy the feeling of having people actually want to listen to your music; would’ve never imagined myself going from 200 plays to over 2 million collective plays in one year.
How do you plan on using your music to send a positive message to your peers and people who may look up to you?
I plan on using my music to prove to those who feel obligated to enclose their true self that being comfortable with who you truly are is the proper way to live life. In my music I am always myself, some people will accept and respect it while others may not. What’s important is that I remain true to who I am; which is what I want instill in others.
If you could collaborate with any musician who would it be?
If I had the opportunity to collaborate with any musician it would be between Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Bryson Tiller, or PARTYNEXTDOOR, to name a few.
What inspires your music?
The inspiration behind my music stems from life experiences, how I feel about a particular situation, or my overall mood. Essentially, my music comes from my heart. Regardless of what any song is about, it is always something that is extremely genuine.
What advice would you give someone else who wishes you pursue a career in music.
For anyone seeking to make a career out of music I would stress to him or her that the focus should always be the bigger picture, focus on longevity & not momentary success. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with your music, there’s no telling what works until an attempt has been made. Make yourself marketable to multiple demographics, otherwise, being one dimensional can really limit your career.
What would you say is different about your style?
What’s different about my style is that pride myself on being able to control anything from a song, a stage, a room, picture/video, etc, in a manner which is unparalleled. My goal is to make myself known without forcibly imposing my presence. I pride myself on deviating from what’s normal.
What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to creating your sound?
My biggest pet peeve is that I’m my biggest critic and I’m such a perfectionist that sometimes I can over-think about certain things which leads to minor frustration. Other than that, there aren’t any pet peeves.
